lunch at Breakfast Thieves on Gore St

Breakfast Thieves on the corner of Gore and Rose streets opened a couple of weeks ago. I tried to go last weekend but they were full on Saturday morning and I was more successful on Tuesday at lunchtime.

While the breakfast side of the menu looks good I was more interested in some of the lunch dishes, including the ‘Ned Kelly’ – rosemary polenta with mushrooms and poached eggs. This is fantastic dish that needs only a piece of bread to soak up the yolk and juices to make it perfect.…

Makatron on Gore St

Last week I passed along Gore St and saw an artist working on a large mural just south of Johnston St, and I made a mental note to return. It is an unusual mural by Makatron featuring nearby landlmarks like the Collingwood grain silos, perhaps in recognition that they are being redeveloped into apartments. Another curiosity is what looks like a promotion for the WordPress CMS, which he uses for his site.

Fitzroy history – corner of Gore and Moor streets

I haven’t learned anything about this building, which is on the corner of Gore and Moor streets. It may have been a shop or other commercial premise originally, but it appears to have been a private residence for many years.
