Bric a Brac cafe opened last year on High St in Thornbury. They do great coffee and my girlfriend and I loved the food: a baguette with two kinds of terrine – duck and plum on one side and rabbit on the other – both rich and intensely flavoured and a croque monsieur (which is served with a small green salad with mustard dressing). Brian Eno was the best gig I saw this year – a fascinating and thrilling performance, with the additional status of being a rare and longheld ambition fulfilled.

coffee and cake at Enni cafe, High St Thornbury
Enni cafe on High St Thornbury is famous for its cakes, but I’ve previously only had breakfast there (which was excellent). I was recently able to overcome this oversight and drooled in anticipation of consuming this passionfruit meringue tart, while my friend loved her cheesecake. Everything is made on premises, and the coffee is good too.

Farewelling The Lucksmiths at the Thornbury theatre
On the night of Friday 28 August I attended The Lucksmiths farewell tour show at the Thornbury theatre. They played two sets to huge applause, appreciation, hugs and tears. I saw them play a great show at the Northcote Social Club earlier this year before their recent retirement announcement, which came as a shock. I have so many wonderful memories of their music and live shows.
