Fitzroy is a popular traveller and tourist destination but has limited accommodation facilities. compared to the centre of Melbourne. It’s something people often ask me about so I have put together a list of accommodation providers in Fitzroy.

The Quest Royal Gardens is a 4 star serviced apartment property on the western side of Fitzroy opposite the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum near Gertrude St. It contains more than 70 one, two and three bedroom apartments with kitchen and laundry facilities.

The Brooklyn Arts Hotel is the place to stay if you want something more boutique or alternative. Brooklyn is a big old house in the southern (city) end of Fitzroy that offers seven rooms. Upstairs are two queen rooms with private balconies and bathrooms, and on the ground floor there are two queen rooms, a double, a twin and a single bedroom with shared facilities. Owner Maggie Fooke is charming (I’ve met her socially but not been into the hotel).

The Metropole on the south end of Brunswick St offers 4 1/2 star hotel and apartment style accommodation including hotel studios, junior suites as well as one and two bedroom self contained apartments. They provide free 24 hour access security car parking and free high speed wireless broadban.

The Nunnery on Nicholson St (the western side of Fitzroy bordering Carlton opposite the the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum) offers three levels of accommodation in separate buildings. Budget accommodation is in the original Nunnery building built in 1888, which is the former home of the Daughters of Charity. A townhouse built in the early 1900s has been recently refurbished and is suited to couples. The guesthouse, built in the 1860s, is a 2 storey building with high ceilings and authentic period fittings. There’s a video tour you can watch:

Although recently completely refurbished, the Royal Derby Hotel on the corner of Brunswick St and Alexandra Parade still has accommodation upstairs according to a note in the window, but there’s no information available online.
