I like street artist Deb’s style and resilience. Despite her work being repeatedly vandalised by morons she seems to maintain a sense of dignity and professionalism. Her current work for fashion shop IDS on Brunswick St has been damaged for some time, but the other day the words ‘back soon to fix [signed] Deb’ appeared on the wall. Respect.

This is an amusing idea unfortunately badly executed on Deb’s contribution to the Rose St Markets mural. The scale is all wrong. If you’re going to add to an existing work like this please try harder next time.

The new work by Phibs, Deb and Makatron on the Rich wall on the corner of Rose St and Brunswick St was finished within days of work commencing in August and the corner is now much brighter.

On the afternoon of Sunday 16 August Deb and Phibs were working on a replacement for their previous work on the Rose St side wall of Rich on the corner of Brunswick St. While their previous work was still in reasonable condition for its age it had been a target for graffiti vandalism and also a satirical critique.

In a major new series of works, Phibs, Deb, Ears, Makatron and Prism have painted chess characters on the Fitzroy St wall of the Melbourne Chess Club building near the corner of Leicester St. I particularly like the King as Hamlet.

Deb has replaced her artworks on the wall and door of IDS on Brunswick St with some fantastic sultry new characters. Hopefully the public will show them more respect than the last ones.

Update 24 June 2009: I should have mentioned this before but I spoke with Deb today and she asked me to update this post to say that this work was fixed very quickly! So if you’re looking at the Wizards mural on Rose St it is as good as new.

Phibs’ work outside Grilld on the corner of Kerr St and Brunswick St recently got trashed. I would not mind if it was replaced by something equally good, but this mess is disappointing.
