Micro Monkeys Launch

Well I have been toying with the idea of micro monkeys for quite some time, but even the normal baby monkeys can be fiddly. Today I finally gave in and made my first micro monkey. I love, love, love him but it must be said that Chuckles herself is quite besotted with new mini monkey. They are very fiddly and socks are harder to come by in baby size but I will ensure I have a reasonable range of Micro Monkeys available at the first market in the ‘6 markets in 3 weeks’ Marathon. Come meet the micro monkeys at; Kris Kringle ...

f we can think of one person or group's craft experiences as a story, be it adventure, romance or comedy, then each project or event can be thought of as a chapter, and the end result as a single page in that story. A beautiful page with illuminated lettering and a gilt edge, written painstakingly in ink by near-blind monks. The inaugural Northside Makers Market was such a page in the burgeoning story of the Northside Makers. A delight to read, to behold, to experience. The sun shone warmly and birds sang in the trees. The only smudge on the page ...

Oh what a day….

Finally a chance to sit and tell you all about my time at the "Northside Makers Market" on the weekend.Words like fun, sun and lots of glitter come to mind. Along with a sense of absenteeism from the event. Strange but true! I had that sort of out of body experience where you're there but not really present. There was just so much going on.It felt just like organising a wedding.Months and months of planning. Making sure uncle Earl gets to sit next to auntie Bess. Remembering to have stuff for the kids to do so they don't get bored, ...

Here at Northside Makers we espouse the theory of continuous improvement. If you had a change to visit our market, but didn't have a chance to fill in one of our vistor survey sheets, then you are in luck ... we have set up a quick survey at survey monkey which will take 5 minutes to do, it will be open until next weekend. So please, tell us what you think!

Almost the big day………………

When I jumped on board the committee for organizing a new handmade market in my neighborhood, I had no idea what I was in for.In part, I thought it would be a big bloggy love in, with the odd friend roped in under pressure. How wrong could I be.After months of planning, online collaboration, talking, texting, making bookings, twitting, blogging and dreaming we, Margaret Jennie and I, the Northside Makers, have created one hellava market event right here in Northcote this Saturday. There were times when all our patience was stretched, whilst we juggled our own craft business, our day jobs ...

Meet and Greet

Last night we held our first stall holder meet and greet for the Northside Makers Market. Stallholders were invited along for a get together at the Wesley Anne on High Street in Northcote and a walk through of the church hall where we are going to have our market.Ended up that the hall had double booked us so we unfortunately interrupted a meditation group going through their motions! But a good time was had by all. Stallholders got to talk to each other and the newbies got to ask lots of questions! We look forward to many more opportunities to ...

Pay your bills….

I am sooo bad at keeping track of my spending.Occasionally I write the weeks budget on a scrap of paper, only to go desperately searching for 'that paper with the numbers all over it' later, so I can remember what I had to pay whom.So it got me thinking that I needed a little book, separate from my art journals and note books, that was just dedicated to paying boring old bills. After a few dodgy prototypes, I've settled on this design. The new Finki 'bill book'. A 20 week bill ledger.I'll be making them in a few funky colors, and ...

Jay from Finki is a Northside Makers Committee Member, that will also be a stall holder at Octobers Northside Makers Market.Tell us about what you sell ...I have a rather eclectic range. Spanning from art pendants, rings and hair bobbies to stitched baskets, journals and vintage tea towel stools. What inspires you? All things retro, vintage and wildly colorful. What's your favourite medium to work in?I would have to say fabric. 50's, 60's and 70's prints are just out of this world. I still get ridiculously excited when i find good lengths of retro fabric at oppies. What would you be lost ...
