St Albans Cultural Diversity Week

Over 200 ESL VU students from the St Albans campus will be participating in Brimbank City Council's Cultural Diversity Week event, Uniformed Services in Your Community Expo 2010 at Errington Reserve in St Albans.

Each class will take part in activities linked to their curriculum level and to Learning in the Workplace and Community programs. The aim of the Diversity event is to break down the barriers between uniformed personnel and the community, so it will feature:

Victoria Police State Emergency Services Country Fire Authority Metropolitan Fire Brigade St John Ambulance Federal Police Australian Defence Force

A Community Guide will be launched, with outreach activities from a wide range of organisations, including:

The VU Volleyball teams are getting ready to take on other Universities from around the region and Australia at the Southern University Games and the Australian University Games.

If you would like to be considered for the team, then make sure you attend one of the trial and training sessions and get in touch with the team manager.

The Maribyrnong River Community Men’s Shed is a gathering place for men of all ages to share experiences and knowledge, both technical and life skills, and is a place to build relationships with each other, as well as with the wider community.

Sidney Myer Awards

Footscray Community Arts Centre is thrilled to announce that it has been jointly awarded the prestigious Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award Facilitator’s Award. The 2009 award, worth $15,000, was announced at a special ceremony held at the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute in Adelaide on Friday 5 March.  Sharing the award with Footscray Community Arts Centre was Australian music legend Mandawuy Yunupingu (of Yothu Yindi fame). Over its 35 year history, Footscray Community Arts Centre has facilitated the development of hundreds of community-based artists and arts workers who have gone on to establish professional careers in the Australian arts industry. Yesterday, I got around to reading The Ern Malley Affair, a book which has been sitting on my shelf for about 13 years (the original docket was inside).Few people would know about Ern Malley, the great poet who not only died young, but who never actually existed, and who was foisted onto a gullible art magazine editor as a somewhat cruel hoax in 1944.This hoax more or less marked the beginning of the end for that magazine, The Angry Penguins, and demoralised its editor so much that he wrote little poetry again.Such is the arrogance of youth perhaps.Ern Malley's poems, which are of such great literary value, were appended to the back of the book, so, once I had read ... read more

Rachael, have you heard about the February Fast? Apparently it is all the rage! No alcohol for the month of February! Are they nuts? The month of February has seen me out and about - a very busy month and I don't think I could have survived it without the odd tipple. We are only half way through! Tuesday Blog no. 1

Well here goes the first of my weekly Blog therapy sessions, I'll talk about the week that's been ie. from the last Wednesday to today (Tuesday).
