VU is pleased to present the 8th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology (AOSFST). This Symposium constitutes the triennial event of Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology. The most recent AOSFST held in Australia was in September 2001 in Newcastle. Holding the next AOSFST in Melbourne at VU is a fitting tribute to the significant contribution that members of the research group in the Centre for Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering (CESARE) have made to fire science. Over 200 ESL VU students from the St Albans campus will be participating in Brimbank City Council's Cultural Diversity Week event, Uniformed Services in Your Community Expo 2010 at Errington Reserve in St Albans. Each class will take part in activities linked to their curriculum level and to Learning in the Workplace and Community programs. The Science and Engineering Challenge is the largest outreach program held in Australia since 2000. Over three days, more than 20,000 year 9 and 10 students and over 2,000 volunteers from around the country participate in the events. The Challenge aims to change students perceptions about a career in Science and Engineering. We provide activities to capture their imagination and generate enthusiasm for the Sciences and Engineering, and by showing them that science and engineering involves creativity, innovation, problem solving and team work.
