VU Battle of the Bands

VU Battle of the bands is back! The Student Life team are looking for talented bands to take part in Victoria Universities annual Battle of the Bands competition. There are amazing prizes to be won and lots of fun to be had. Taking place at the newly renovated VU bar at Footscray Park campus on the August 19. Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival Check out VU's gig at the Bennetts Lane Jazz Club. Current and graduate music performance students will blow you away with special guest performances. You will have the pleasure of hearing original compositions by a range of students - covering a broad range of techniques, styles and instruments. An African Affair

Diafrix and friends are very excited to announce the launch of their new annual event entitled African Affair, which will celebrate the rich and diverse African culture. Indulge in some African culture by joining us on Sunday 28th February with performances by celebrated hip hop duo Diafrix and friends. Think African food, market stalls and music workshops with some of Melbourne’s hottest African musicians, roving performances and sports activities complimentary of football legend, Harry O’Brien.


REMIX 1

The Emerging Musicians Program is a Footscray Community Arts Centre initiative designed to support early career musicians from culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Melbourne’s western suburbs through professional development opportunities. Led by Khaled Abdulwahab (Diafrix) and facilitated by David Everist, Senior Arts Officer at Arts Victoria, this workshop will explore working in a community context with culturally diverse communities. In two FREE professional development workshops led by industry professionals, Footscray Community Arts Centre offers professional musicians and music teachers the opportunity to develop skills in working within a community context.

fauxPho

fauxPho is a creative space located in the heart of Footscray and overlooks the Footscray Mall. The space is facilitated by the fauxHappiness committee, which comprises fauxPho studio artists and local arts workers. Our aim is to provide a diverse and flexible platform for contemporary art practice and dialogue. We endeavour to nurture a robust and interactive space for arts workers and the broader community through our exhibition program and events.


Dancing Dog Cafe & Gallery

Originally the Australian Native Association, the Dancing Dog Cafe is in the space formerly used by WestSpace Gallery. While we maintained some of the building as a gallery we also use the space for classes including dancing, African drumming, poetry, music events and functions. The Building was constructed in 1908 and has wooden floor boards and 16ft ceilings. Originally built as a medical dispensary there is no loading dock. There is a large door in the front of the building preceded by two steps. There is a hanging system, rail lighting and a surround sound system.


Clocktower Centre

Premier Steve Bracks officially launched the City of Moonee Valley’s Clocktower Centre in February 2000. It was the first venue constructed according to Arts Victoria’s performing arts centre benchmarking standards. The major refurbishment of the building once known as the Essendon Town Hall was both a preservation and enhancement of the proud heritage of the area and the creation of a state of the art facility for the community, the performing arts, social and corporate activities. Cheeky Monkey Headquarters

A new warehouse venue in Kensington, run solely by artists…for artists. CHEEKY MONKEY HEADQUARTERS is an initiative of Cheeky Monkey Enterprises, a theatre and film Production Company operated by Matty Scott run in collaboration with Louise Morris, a founding member of performance company - Red Cabbage. Cheeky Monkey has already held a number of successful performance events (including Red Cabbage’s Collapse), film screenings and live music events over the past 12 months and is now prepared to open its doors to the wider arts community.
