Sheeesh the August market was a rather chilly affair. There was a bit of rain and a lot of cold wind.Luckily, there were lots of lovely handknitted winter woolies on offer. Happy days ahead.Us Melbourne folk are patiently awaiting some warmth....Its been a cold winter. In the maentime....have a peek at what was available to buy at the August market. The next market is on Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of September. We ...

When I was 19, I stayed in a small village outside Rome for a month with a friend. It was the ancestral home of her family. Her aunt lived in the old part of the town, in the small, winding streets that ascended to an old fort. It was an idyllic summer. I remember one time, after drinking too much strawberry-flavoured sparkling wine (we were teenagers, after all), we went in search of "hangover food." All we could find was pizza, but not the flabby, cheesy, mystery-meat kind that our throbbing heads craved - thin-crust, single-topping, perfect Roman-style pizza. A ...

Like two peas in a pod. Still my fav's. Both these cafes know how to run a business! And although they would not like to be grouped together I have put them in the same review because although they are quite different as cafes they both still have a lot in common. That's no coincidence! Ian and Claire who run The corner shop once used to be part owners of Le Chien! Eighteen months ago Ian and Claire struck out on their own once again and have made a huge success of it, whilst ...
43 Anderson St, Yarraville 3013.Ph: (03) 9687 1198So it has changed hands! OMG, that wonderful cabinet of food, Gone, Gone Gone. It bothers me when something good, ceases to exist. But that's life, constantly changing. However the changes aren't that big (yet), at Cafe Urbano. The menu remains the same and obviously the name hasn't changed. The new owners have introduced some Thai dishes on the specials blackboard and I look forward to trying something for lunch one of these days. I just wonder how long before their natural instincts will take over and the ...
Did you know that Hausfrau has the best Vanilla Slice in Melbourne. According to The Age's Top 5 book it does. Isn't that wonderful! Sally Roxon, Chef, at Hausfrau, has been providing SKY residents with more treats than Vanilla Slices over the years. As the original owners of the Gravy Train they held the top spot for Breakfast in SKY, according to me. However when they moved to Hausfrau I was disappointed to see that full breakfasts were no longer on offer. What is on offer for breakfast at Hausfrau? Well not much I'm afraid, they have a few items but ...
Rachael, have you heard about the February Fast? Apparently it is all the rage! No alcohol for the month of February! Are they nuts? The month of February has seen me out and about - a very busy month and I don't think I could have survived it without the odd tipple. We are only half way through! In the middle of the month we have the Yarraville Festival and at the end of the month we have the Seddon Festival. Throw in a couple of birthday dinners and other dinners just for the hell of it and you have ...

Formerly a little greek bakery which was known for its marvelous crostoli, Hausfrau in Yarraville is a charming bakery and cafe. Here the coffee plays second fiddle to beautiful looking cakes, pastries, quiches and breads. But don’t let second fiddle fool you. The Genovese brand was perfectly made and my Long Black arrived with about two centimeters of rich crema atop of it. Like a liquid creme brulee! The fit-out is cute clean and comfortable. If you’re going to visit – make sure you’ve eaten healthily beforehand so you can take full advantage of your neighbourhood Hausfrau’s goodies. ...

My husband and I are both artists (graphic designer/illustrator) and are seeking a secure creative space that would suit living as well as working from as we’re trying to keep overheads low. We’re neat, mature and friendly, and hoping to find a place to move into in December that would accommodate us as freelance artists. Parking is ideal, but we’re happy to have street parking if available. Prefer space that includes internet connection. Please contact us if you have anything available.
Co Klat is trading! On Friday I was in the village and I saw a couple of young girls walking around offering free samples of chocolate. YES FREE! So what would any sane woman who loves chocolate do? I followed them to the source. The source is Co Klat. It's a little chocolate shop which also sells waffles, muffins, coffee (illy) and of course chocolate drinks. I didn't sit down, I thought I'd buy a few samples and take them home to indulge. The average chocolate is $1.70.There are all different flavours, some alcohol, some child friendly. Mint, raspberry, orange, praline, ...
