Core members of Speak Percussion, Matthias Schack-Arnott and Eugene Ughetti, are experienced in playing in a host of orchestral, improvisational and new music ensembles and forging new artistic collaborations. Speak Percussion’s new duo work Driftwood presents two 5 octave marimbas deconstructed and strewn throughout a performance/installation space. The work re-contextualises the marimba and explores it as a sonic, cultural and historical artefact.
Robbie Avenaim is the founder of Australia’s largest showcase of local and international experimental music, the What Is Music Festival. I have just come back from a weekend in Rhode Island, Baltimore, and NYC, in which I think I have eaten nothing but meat, cheese, and white flour. Vietnamese Buddhist vegetarian cuisine could not be a better counterpoint to my "street meat" weekend! Thank you so much to Deb from
Bear Head Soup for coming to my rescue again while I am overseas and sending in another Footscray review for your enjoyment.

I’ve walked past Bo De Trai several times and have often wondered about what a vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant might be like. There isn’t always a lot of people in there so that made me a little hesitant too. How

Harrell Fletcher is an American Artist whose work is renowned for focusing on local people, and tomorrow he is focusing on us! He will be following the working day of our staff and our ArtLife Participants, sleuthing out all our funny bones for his latest project – The sound we make together (Melbourne). His work will go on display at the Ian Potter Centre: National Gallery of Victoria, opening Saturday 11 September.
I cannot believe that I have blogged about Hung Vuong in Footscray. With so many choices along Hopkins Street, this has been our preference lately. Maybe because it has heating in winter and air-condition in summer unless many of the older establishments. And also maybe because it has nice white light and better for taking photos!
I made my usual order of beef special combination. It is basically pho served with beef slices, beef sausage that is heavily laced with black pepper, tendons and thinly sliced tripes. The broth is quite heavily scented and flavoured with clove. MSG? Of course! But still a nice broth. The portions here are quite generous. As usual, I love topping it with bean sprouts, Vietnamese

When I was 19, I stayed in a small village outside Rome for a month with a friend. It was the ancestral home of her family. Her aunt lived in the old part of the town, in the small, winding streets that ascended to an old fort. It was an idyllic summer. I remember one time, after drinking too much strawberry-flavoured sparkling wine (we were teenagers, after all), we went in search of "hangover food." All we could find was pizza, but not the flabby, cheesy, mystery-meat kind that our throbbing heads craved - thin-crust, single-topping, perfect Roman-style pizza. A few slices did nothing to take the edge off the morning after, so light were they on cheese and oil.Pizza

It's a pity they didn't mention the blog title or address, however!! Big thanks to Deb from
Bear Head Soup who emailed this to me out of the blue while I am overseas! You are a sweetie. I do highly recommend Mei Ling's 'Vietnam on a Plate' tour (see
here for my experience earlier this year). I was on the waiting list from the previous year and the Council faithfully got in touch, so don't despair if they are already booked out. Bring a spare stomach - you end up eating so much food!In other very exciting news, particularly if you know me IRL (in real

WOMEN
State League 2 (3) lt Yarra Valley (4) Goals E Fithall 2, J Skilton
A disappointing result after the girls were leading 2 – 0 after the first 15 minutes of the game. With a key player being unavailable due to illness, the team’s winning structure from the previous 4 weeks had to be re-shuffled. Yarra were able to gain control of the game and score.
