Photographs all loaded and ready for sharing – sorry about the delay! As I mentioned in the last post, at last Katherine Wheeler and Abby Seymour have collaborated and the result is quite a beautiful exhibition ‘Hidden Facets‘. I’ve said before how much I respond to and love art that is created in response to other art, and an interdependent collaboration is a perfect example of that kind of approach and the resulting symbiotic relationship. [all photographs taken with artists permission; no images in this post are to be reproduced without permission of the author or artists, this differs from the general ...

This morning I installed my work for 'The High Life' at Rooftop Bar. The bottom image is Adam Cruickshank's work, also at Rooftop. The High Life is a series of rooftop art projects curated by West Space that will be a feature of this year’s Melbourne Food + Wine Festival. The Festival invited West Space to work with contemporary artists to present artworks that reflect upon themes initiated in this year’s festival keynote project ‘The Metlink Edible Garden’. West Space has commissioned eight artists to make new work that responds to ideas around plants and gardens, food sustainability, urban landscapes and ...
Last night saw the opening of the exhibition of jewellery by the lovely Katherine Wheeler (see my previous artist profile story, and her blog) and printmaking/drawing by the equally lovely Abby Seymour (tumblr), and pieces they’ve collaborated on. I had intended to share photographs with you today, however I am ‘en plein air’ (ie. gallivanting around the place) and failed to bring my camera connection thingy-whatsit. For now I share the gorgeous invitation, which gives an indication of the delicacy of the work. invitation; courtesy of the artists And I am very excited to say that I am now a proud owner a ...

Breadwell is one of a multitude of coffee shops situated right near my workplace. A differentiator is its great selection of teas (including a pretty great chai if you are that way inclined). I recently noticed a new inclusion in the cakes cabinet – teeny tiny little macarons. Obviously they were calling for me to try them. The other day I had a quick lunch with my mum, she had olive tapenade and bread ($6) and some meatballs ($7): I’ve had the meatballs before and they are fine, although a touch sweet which I don’t love. The tapenade was really good though, not too salty, quite chunky, with some ...

I found this small factory while out walking in South Melbourne yesterday. It looked a bit sad and vacant and I almost walked right on past until I noticed the rounded concrete porch above the door which continues as ledge above the frosted and guarded windows on the front of the building.A closer inspection reveals that there are small dark bricks below the ledge at street level and cream bricks above the ledge stretching up to the roofline. The side and rear of the building has been completed in cream brick with the roofline at the back has simple asymetrical ...
Following up on recent Craft Victoria exhibitor Adam Cruickshank's Awesome Prizes workshop at ArtPlay on Saturday 27 February, here are some photos from the day's events. Partly inspired by Adam's 2009 exhibition at Platform and building upon his ever-optimistic view that "everyone's a winner", Awesome Prizes kicks off Craft Victoria and ArtPlay's series of collaborative workshops for 2010. In case you were wondering, Reverse Cargo has sadly come and gone, but if you still want more of Adam be sure to have a look at The High Life, a West Space-curated exhibition taking place in Melbourne's inner-city rooftop venues.Adam Cruickshank ...

I was going through the photos the other day and realised that I have taken many food and coffee shots of St. Ali but never blogged since the one I did in August last year - name of post. It deserves a part 2 and even 3. I tend to visit it when I have a long morning at work or when I just feel like chilling out by myself and away from work. It isn't exactly the quietest cafe in South Melbourne. It is always buzzing with people, the slayer hard at work, beans roasting in the far end ...
I've already blogged about the delicious lasagna at the vegie bar, but we ate at a few other places over the weekend! After the storm on Saturday, we didn't want to venture too far from home so we popped on over to the EBC. Trashy and familiar, I elected to eat the classic vegan parma at the EBC. Danni went for the shepherd's pie (TVP and potatoes and vegan cheese, I think) from the specials board. This was really tasty! We shared a cherry ripe cheesecake. Who could go past such a delight?I know several people have had some terrible service ...

So we’re at this restaurant, 7:30pm on Friday night, in the 5 star Hilton that has the name of a 2 star Michelin chef (Ramon Frexia) plastered all over it. Yet it felt like being in the Great Southern Stand at a 50 overs match. Why? Could it be that the trek to the ass end… I mean still developing… South Wharf be too much? Is the feeling of being surrounded by tree off putting? These queries were answered on the plate, and more so in the leather bill ...
Rain Through Window Degraves Street_Melbourne. Photo made with Apple 3Gs iPhone Saturday afternoon saw severe weather hit Melbourne and much of country Victoria. The Bureau of Meteorology reported hailstones up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) wide. Rain and hail ripped large holes in the roof of Southern Cross Railway Station, Melbourne Aquarium, National Gallery of Victoria and the Ian Potter Centre and Atrium at Federation Square. On the south side of the city water was said to be almost as high as the rooftops of stranded cars. The State Emergency Service (SES) received over 2,500 calls for assistance with collapsed roofs ...
I am a tad slow with my postings. I don't know how other working people blog and work and live their lives, because I'm pretty much exhausted and much too lazy to want to do anything after work.Anyway, today's post will be about my visit to the newly renovated and refurbished Dragon Boat RestaurantWe actually visited this place during the first day of Chinese New Year...the road (Little Bourke Street) was packed and we were seeking an escape! We hurriedly ducked into the nearest arcade and decided that it was time to try yumcha at Dragon Boat. What better way to ...

Who buys miniature plastic models of stuff? In the past we have brought you giant tennis balls, life-sized replica animals, miniature bottles of whiskey and paper models of the White House. It is frightening to think that all the stuff in the world is reproduced in several different scales. Here are trays of some of the smallest scale stuff and at $5 or $15 a tiny replica bottle it is much more expensive than the real thing. What kind of doll’s house needs a fully stocked kitchen pantry? It boggles even a Lilliputian mind. It’s a small world after all, it’s ...
