SAVE THE FUCKING ARTHOUSE

Yeah I probably should have posted something about this a bit earlier.  But better late than never ‘eh. Can’t remember how we got onto it, but have been talking tonight about the closure of the Tote with a friend (from Darwin, who has never been to the Tote) and also the impending demise of the Arthouse in May 2011.  And have suddenly found myself quite angry. And quite rightly, I hear you saying (as, let’s face it – if you’re reading this you’ve either done a search for “Arthouse”, “Tote”, “Melbourne live music” or something else similarly applicable, and actually give a damn ...

Tiesto snapshots

Saturday night.  Tiesto.  Very awesome. I think we were all a little disappointed he didn’t play more old stuff… that seems to be the general consensus… But then whenever an artist releases a new album and immediately tours, you expect to hear mostly new stuff. Unless they happen to be Massive Attack in which case they play all their Most Awesome stuff thus cementing themselves in Kitten’s brain as Most Awesome Live Show EVER (Daft Punk may possibly tie… possibly…) But still – totally awesome.  And – like everyone else in the stadium – I LOST MY SHIT to Silence! I’ll begin with confessions. The Scare is my favourite band, and so no matter how God-awful a performance, I still view it through very, very rose-tinted glasses. I’m also easily persuaded by a good looking venue, and Roxanne is very, very fine! Laced with red, antique light fixtures and old 70’s couches, this intimate venue was perfect for the night’s events!First to play was two-piece Dead before Death Gang. Made up of guitar and drums, the sound the pair produced was wirery and sharp, along the vein of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, with the singer drawling out long winding sentences ...

Witch Hats American send-off show 2008.

Melbourne band Witch Hats have organised themselves an rather gruelling two month tour across the US, and so to say goodbye, the boys are having one last show at Roxanne Parlour with Mexicon Devils, Breaker Morant and Pets with Pets, on Friday the 27th of June. This is a band I have only really discovered recently, and even though the only work of theirs I have heard is several songs off of their first, self-titled release (that they have available as a free download in a neat little zip. file off of their MySpace!), I have been completely taken away by ...
