The first announcements for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2010 have begun to trickle out. First up, we get back to basics with Fashion 101 this MSFW. The fashion show will feature cult Melbourne labels like Lady Petrova, Violet and I, Eva Q, Harvest Powell, Landell Designs with headpieces by Cailin Alainn. More designers set to strut the runway will soon be announced. Fashion 101 will be held Wednesday 1st September from 7.30pm to 11.30pm at Alumbra 9/161 Harbour Esplanade in Docklands. Pandora’s Wonderland showcased race wear, racier lingerie, resort wear and menswear. Atop these designers collections sat the works of the extraordinarily talented Melbourne milliner Marilena Romeo. First down the runway was K.B.A.D (Karin Bochnik Altman Design). Launched in 2007, K.B.A.D. sent out a collection inspired by icebergs consisting of graceful, diaphanous frocks. Soft sheer layers, razor sharp lines and specially crafted fabrics worked to imbue the collection with the effect of light and movement in a glacier. Eco-Luxe Fashion Exposé (ELFE) was a fashion event to showcase environmentally sustainable fashion. The luxurious venue, Alumbra, hosted the event and transformed it’s main room into a runway with surrounding market stalls and display booths of the collections on show. Rachael Cassar’s ‘Ruby’ collection featured multiple black pieces in exclusive fabrics and interesting styles. Rachael sources vintage fashion and re-uses the fabric to create a her garments for her own label. As the end of week, “edgier” official runway parade at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week for 2008, the Modern Odyssey show presented a range of names probably largely unknown to those outside the fashion set (with the exception perhaps of Gail Sorronda courtesy Designers for Target) . That said they are hugely successful within it and, finger crossed, on the cusp of greater things. MaterialbyProduct opened the show in an innovative fashion.
